Phoenix Attorneys to Award Autism Scholarship

Autism Scholarship 2022

Phoenix Attorneys to Award Autism Scholarship

The Feldman Law Firm PLLC, takes pleasure in announcing that it is offering an educational scholarship for persons diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, or ASD. The amount of the scholarship is $1,000 and will be provided to pay a portion of the cost of tuition for the winning applicant at the college or vocational school of their choice. The firm understands that those with ASD are presented with certain challenges, including educational challenges, that may impact on their continuing education. Adam Feldman, founder of the firm, believes that by awarding the scholarship, those with ASD may be provided with additional incentive to complete their education. This is the third time in recent years that the firm has offered a scholarship for the benefit of those with ASD.

Autism and its Effects on Education

Obviously, the effects of autism vary from person to person. Nevertheless, it is a statistical fact that for the 2-year period after high school, over 50% of those with ASD remain unemployed and not enrolled in a higher education program. This is a higher unemployment/unenrolled rate than for many other disabilities, including various learning and speech disabilities. Of those with ASD who are employed during this period, the earnings of a significant percentage places them well below the poverty level.

The Scholarship

The specific benefits of the scholarship include, of course, providing additional resources for tuition and thereby lessening the financial burden to the student. The firm also seeks, however, to provide additional motivation to encourage those who might otherwise cease their education, to move forward and achieve their educational goals. The $1,000 scholarship fund will be paid directly to the school chosen by the successful applicant, whether it is a university or college, a trade or vocational school, or a junior college. The winner will have a full year after the announcement of the scholarship award to enroll at school and utilize the scholarship.

Eligibility

The eligibility requirements are straightforward. The scholarship is open to persons who are citizens of the U.S. diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (DSM-V) who would like to further their education at a post-high school level. The firm does not require that applicants be enrolled in an educational program at the time he or she applies for the scholarship.

Deadline for the Application and Announcement of the Winner
