Melissa\’s Story

I have had a very rich and fulfilling life and I feel my experiences have greatly contributed to who I am today. I hope by participating in the master’s program I will have the opportunity to further build upon these experiences to better prepare for the next phase of my life.

Although I have had many experiences, spanning my younger years through today, I feel like my life really started to make sense when I left for the United States Air Force in 2002. Since that time I have had wonderful life experiences, both as an active-duty service member, and as a civilian working for the federal government.

In total, my professional and personal experiences have taught me a great deal about who I am and what I am capable of accomplishing. My determination and hard work has had a long-lasting impact on what I believe I can accomplish for myself—and that is great things.

In 2015, I ended a long federal career. I realized I spent a great many years in service to others—I started a family, graduated from college, joined the military during war time, and worked for the largest federal law enforcement agency in the world. With all that I accomplished, I realized I was ready to start on a new life path. I resigned from my position and started in a new position at Texas A&M University. The motivation behind this decision was the desire to develop my resume to include education to support my long-term goal of teaching overseas someday.

Ideally, I would like to teach overseas while also enjoying different cultures and experiences. My daughter will be 18 years old in 2017 and I would like to be that much closer to accomplishing this goal by then. I am very excited about this new chapter in my life and I hope that this master’s program will be the perfect steppingstone for my personal and professional development.

This is only a small snapshot of my life, but I hope it gave you some insight into the type of person I am, and the way I pursue my goals, and fulfill my dreams.I would be more than happy to discuss any other aspects of my life in more detail, should you require it.

I appreciate your consideration for any scholarship award that will assist with me obtaining my master’s  at Concordia University, Nebraska.
